ConsumerSearch analyzes reviews of two-way radios, looking for agreement between experts and owners on the most reliable radios with the best range.
By Anonymous CYPRESS, CA (PR WEB) April 29 2004 -- Vertex Standard announces the addition of two new VHF/UHF portables to its already impressive portfolio of VX series radios. “Our VX Series has proven itself to be not only exceptionally reliable but easy to use, regardless of the application. The addition of the VX-410 and the VX-420 gives our product line a distinct competitive advantage in not only standard features, but compact size as well,” states Scott Henderson, Vertex Standard’s Executive Vice President.
Both radios offer up to 5W RF output (selectable by channel), 32 channel capability with versatile, user-friendly scanning features, including Dual Watch, Priority, Group and Follow-Me. Also included in each model are built-in Voice Encryption and numerous over-the-air functions such as stun / kill / revive, which make it an ideal portable for demanding public safety applications.
In spite of their compact size and light weight, both the VX-410 and VX-420 series offer 500 mW audio output, insuring reception in noisy environments. Their rugged construction meets Mil Std 810 D / E / F and makes them well suited for tough industrial and commercial applications. This series will soon be available with an Intrinsically Safe option.
“We listened to our customers and provided an unmatched list of features including DTMF ANI, Over-the-air functions and Audio Companding per channel that they requested for more effective operation,” says Richard Galvan, Product Development Manager for the Land Mobile Division of Vertex Standard. “We also included Dual 2 Tone Encode and Decode as well as an optional Voice Storage Board. So, with either the VX-410 or the VX-420, the user has a 2 Tone pager in addition to a user-friendly and reliable portable, making it the ideal all-in-one communications device for first responders.”
While both radios offer two programmable side function buttons, the VX-420 provides the user additional flexibility and features with a full keypad that includes four more programmable function buttons on the front of the unit. It also has an 8-character, alphanumeric display that shows multiple radio status function icons. Customization of feature access is easily accomplished at the time of programming.
A full line of accessories complements these new portables, including a choice of rechargeable Ni-Cd battery packs, high-capacity Lithium-Ion battery packs, chargers (wall, desktop rapid and 6-unit multi), speaker microphone, earpiece microphone, VOX headset and choice of leather cases. The radios are compatible with all VX-160 and VX-180 Series accessories. As with all Vertex Standard land mobile products, the VX-410 and the VX-420 models are backed with a full 3-year warranty.
The Land Mobile Division of Vertex Standard USA is headquartered in Cypress, California and has been a recognized leader in the manufacturing of land mobile radios, repeaters and accessories for over 40 years.

By Anonymous This is not a new subject but sometimes people tend to minimize the role of online radios or 'internet only' radios.
Terrestrial or local radios play to you the same songs all over again and again day after day; it happens often that you have to listen to horrible tracks just because you don't have a choice... except for playing one of your favourite old-time CDs. Most of the tracks you hear come from the US or the UK market; how about the tracks from Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Brazil... so many excellent Pop, Dance, Rock or other tracks that you might never hear of.
Here comes Online Radios, but what do they offer?
There is a difference to make between online "for-profit" radios and online "non-profit" radios. Both of them can provide you with great quality programs, but "non-profit" radios are ones that are not tied up to Label companies and are not waiting for these companies to pay them in order to diffuse the songs they produce.
Many of Online Radios offer the same or alike programs as the ones you hear on your local radio(s). However, there are so many that are specialized in:
- tracks from the 80s (Generation 80s Retro: http://javajanesworld.com/Playlist.htm)
- tracks from the 70s (STATION6070S...60s&70s: http://www.station6070s.com/)
- Electronic Music or Heavy Metal
- Mediterranean Dance Music (Beirut Nights: http://www.beirutnights.com)
and some others offer a variety of excellent tracks (Pop, Dance, Rock, R&B) coming from many different countries all on one radio. This is the case of a Live365 broadcaster: STAR RADIO http://www.star-radio.net/ created in March 2003. A highly attractive website with many possibilities for listening to its stream (Live365 Player -recommended, RealOne Player, WinAmp...). The name is confusing though as there are many radios in different countries called by the same name. This is an Internet Only Radio playing all the latest hits from all around the world (mainly in English but also in French, Spanish and Italian). It also has an International TOP 40 and more interesting music related stuff to offer...
With such variety, I believe that Online Radios are on the right track and will be more popular as broadband spreads to more and more homes.
Enjoy the Music
